EFF sues Michael Crook over abuse of DMCA act
Michael Crook pulled a “prank” a while back and 10 zen monkeys ran a story about it including a pic of him and he got 10zm’s host to take the pic down. He used the DMCA rules to ge the pic pulled even though he didn’t own the copyright, and it would have fallen under fair use clauses even if he did.
Fox News is actually granting permission for people to use the pic (they’re the actual copyright holders).
So the EFF is sueing Crook for abusing the DMCA act. If they win, it will set a legal precident against people using similar threats to try to get files and images removed wrongfully.
